It was been the primary objective of the Mini-Acs to bring a miniature event to our area that was both reasonably priced for participants and readily accessible to everyone wanting to attend. Our first few year's producing Minis In The Wine Country were very successful, both for participants and our club. However, last year, for reasons we still don't understand, we experienced a significant decline in attendance. This had a major financial impact on those who participated in the show - and our club. Although we took immediate steps that we thought would prevent this from re-occurring, apparently it was not enough to convince many of our loyal vendors to return. In addition, ever-increasing overhead prevents us from subsidizing much of the costs, as we have previously done.
The decision to cancel was one not made lightly. Much thought and soul searching went into evaluating our possible options and alternatives. But without sufficient vendors, we felt we wouldn't attract enough attendees. And without good attendance, the event would not be beneficial to vendors or our group,
With our previous shows we set a very high standard for ourselves - keeping our spaces fees to a minimum, refusing to charge an admission, creating unique, low cost workshops and developing promotions and incentives for attendees and vendors alike. Now, faced with a difficult decision as to whether to continue as best we could, we chose not lower those standards just to make sure that "the show must go on".
Our club deeply appreciates the faith everyone has placed in us through support of our past efforts. Together we have made significant financial contributions to local charities including Sonoma County Special Olympics and Face To Face/Sonoma County AIDS Network, as well as NAME.
Now we intend to look at our successes to find what works, and evaluate what changes we can make in the future. Once we have developed a plan that meets the needs of our vendors and is financially viable for our club, we will work to bring another miniature event to our beautiful Wine County.
